ABOUT PLAYWRIGHT

Artist and educator, Paul Rajeckas, has been performing, touring and teaching movement theater since 1979. He has collaborated with many renowned artists including Jonathan Wolken, co-founder of Pilobolus Dance Theater and Neil Intraub of TheatreMoves. Paul co-authored NOTES TO THE MOTHERLAND with George Chieffet where it premiered at the 78th Street Theatre Lab in October 2003. The play went on to its Off-Broadway premiere at the 59th Street Theater in July 2004. NOTES TO THE MOTHERLAND was nominated for a Fringe First Award at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Mr. Rajeckas was nominated as best actor at the 2004 Festival by STAGE Magazine.

         

NOTES TO THE MOTHERLAND is the first play in the LITHUANIAN TRILOGY which had its world premier at the Artisphere Theater in Washington DC, September 2011. The second play in the trilogy, LOVE CURES CANCER – The Musical , was written and directed by George Chieffet, with music and performance by Mr. Rajeckas. It premiered at the HERE Arts Center in NYC in 2009. The third part of the Trilogy, MY LITHUANIAN SWEETHEART, was written by George Chieffet, with Mr. Rajeckas as a performer and director of the three person cast.

 

As an educator, Paul has been selected twice as a Doris Duke Foundation Creative Campus Innovation Artist, both 2008 and 2011, for the Telling Tales Project at SUNY Oswego where he collaborated with faculty on interdisciplinary teaching.  Paul also teaches, with his colleague Neil Intraub, a graduate course in Physical Theater for the City University of New York School of Education.     www.prajeckas.com
